Akshata Krishnamurthy achieved her dream by becoming the first Indian woman to assist in NASA’s Mars Rover Mission. She shared her story recently on her instagram handle. This mission aimed to collect samples from Mars and bring them back to Earth. Dr. Krishnamurthy earned her Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the MIT. She became part of NASA’s projects by joining the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which is a research facility owned by NASA.
The Mars 2020 Perseverance mission is part of NASA’s plan to explore the Moon and Mars, with the Artemis missions focusing on the Moon to prepare for eventual human exploration of Mars.
“I came to the United States a little over 13 years ago with almost nothing but a dream to work at NASA and lead breakthrough science and robotic operations on Earth and Mars. Despite everyone I met telling me that this was impossible as a foreign national on a visa, advising me to either have a plan B or change my field completely,” she shared on Instagram.

She has earned numerous acclaims in the Science field, such as the NASA Honor Group Achievement Award for her resourceful utilization of a CubeSat to carry out essential scientific inquiries. Additionally, she was honored with the Emerging Space Leader Award and the Luigi G Napolitano Award by the International Astronautical Federation in 2017.
About NASA’s Mars Rover
The Mars 2020 mission sent a qualified rover called Perseverance to Mars. Its main job is to find signs of ancient life and collect pieces of rock and soil. It was launched on July 30, 2020 and it safely landed on Mars in February 2021 at Jezero Crater.
The Mars Helicopter that did a 30-day test and is now doing more tasks to help with the mission. Together, they are exploring Mars and trying to learn more about the neighboring planet.
