The Russia-Ukraine war has entered its third year. War news made the headlines for the majority of the first year. Over the next two years, its development was stuck in the international column.
One such recent development is that France announced it will sell missiles to Ukraine. On Sunday, French Defence Minister Sebastien Lecornu expressed in an interview with La Tribune that Ukraine requires strong equipment. He said that “to hold such an extensive front line, the Ukrainian army needs, for example, our armoured personnel carriers. It’s absolutely key for troop mobility.”
France said that Ukraine should prepare to receive a new package of military aid, which includes old but still functional equipment. It is set to deliver hundreds of armoured vehicles, VAB (Véhicule de l’Avant Blindé) front-line troop carriers and new surface-to-air missiles.
This moves comes after French military decides to replace its old VAB armoured personnel carriers that started being used in 1979 by a new generation of armoured vehicles.
This old equipment, still operational, is going directly to Ukraine in large quantities in 2024 and early 2025.
The France-Ukraine relations were established in 1992, and Ukraine is an observer of the Francophoine.
France will soon be delivering 78 Caesar howitzers and subsequently increase the supply of shells.
