The event, organized by the Touch of Humanity-Lets Be Human (NGO), involved a collaboration with TANMI, Assam Association of Deaf, NERIM Group of Institutions, and the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of Assam. This initiative, which featured 1010 participants, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of learning sign language.

Hirak Jyoti Borah, the organizer, expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment, Pijush Hazarika, for their invaluable support. Borah also thanked various organizations for their assistance, highlighting the event’s purpose of advocating for sign language and the rights of the deaf and mute community.
Advocacy and Future Plans
Borah emphasized the importance of government attention and international recognition to support the community’s rights and promote sign language. He praised the efforts of Assam’s leadership in this regard, expressing confidence in their ongoing support. Additionally, Borah outlined plans to advocate for the introduction of ‘Assamese Sign Language’ and the development of an ‘Assamese Dictionary of Sign Language.’ Furthermore, there are proposals for establishing a university dedicated to the higher education of deaf and mute students.

The Assam Book of Records serves as a platform to showcase talent from Assam and the Northeast region, with a focus on preserving endangered folklore.
