The Pulwama attack, happening on February 14, 2019, stands as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle against terrorism. Even after five years, the wounds are raw and the memories vivid.
On that fateful day, a suicide bomber targeted a CRPF convoy in Pulwama, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of 40 brave personnel. The convoy, transporting over 2,500 jawans, was either returning from leave or en route to deployment areas when the attack occurred. In response to the attack, India strongly condemned the incident and held Pakistan responsible for harboring and supporting terrorist groups like JeM
Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged that those accountable would face repercussions. He declared that the security forces had been given complete freedom to decide the timing, location, and manner of the response.
Paying his tributes to the martyrs on Wednesday, PM Modi tweeted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The attack sparked nationwide protests and triggered extensive diplomatic initiatives to designate JeM chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. These efforts yielded results when, on May 1, 2019, China withdrew its technical hold on a proposal in the UN Security Council, resulting in Azhar’s designation.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) played a pivotal role in uncovering the plot behind the Pulwama attack. In August 2020, it filed a detailed chargesheet against 19 individuals, including Azhar, relying on electronic evidence and testimonies from terrorists and their associates.
As we mark the anniversary of the Pulwama attack, we pay tribute to the bravery of the fallen heroes and renew our pledge to combat terrorism in every manifestation.
