“Cancer-Death” Publicity Stunt
However, taking to Instagram today early in morning, she posted videos apologizing to her fans and followers for ‘shocking’ them. She revealed that all this in fact, was a well thought campaign to raise awareness on cervical cancer.
The actress wrote, “I feel compelled to share something significant with you all – I am here, alive. Cervical Cancer didn’t claim me, but tragically, it has claimed the lives of thousands of women who stemmed from a lack of knowledge on how to tackle this disease. Unlike some other cancers, Cervical Cancer is entirely preventable. The key lies in the HPV vaccine and early detection tests. We have the means to ensure no one loses their life to this disease. Let’s empower one another with critical awareness and ensure every woman is informed about the steps to take. Visit the link in the bio to delve deeper into what can be done. Together, let’s strive to put an end to the devastating impact of the disease and bring #DeathToCervicalCancer.”
Netizens troll
What Poonam Pandey has done is very distasteful and disrespectful to those who have lost loved ones to Cervical Cancer which is a painful and heartbreaking disease. While the cause is appreciated and supported but the way to do it is not. A cancer led death tool for publicity stunt is one of the insensitive, thoughtless and vile to use proving her mockery.
Legal or Illegal?
The recent incident of faking her death may not inherently constitute a crime, but legal consequences arise when it is employed as a method for committing fraud.
It is important to note that the act of feigning one’s death is not intrinsically against the law. However, the legality becomes compromised when this action is coupled with fraudulent intentions. Specifically, if an individual orchestrates a fake death to gain advantages such as accessing wills, life insurance benefits, evading financial obligations, death benefits, evading debts, alimony, or child support obligations, then they may face charges related to fraud.
It is crucial to emphasize that engaging in a fraudulent act, such as benefiting from a false death report, is a punishable offense. If someone files a report of the individual’s death on their behalf, both parties could be implicated in the crime of participating in a fraudulent death report.
While Poonam Pandey’s actions may not be inherently illegal, the deception on such a scale undermines the trust between the public, the cause, the celebrity, and the campaign organizers. Trust is crucial in any awareness campaign, and deliberately misleading the audience can lead to feelings of betrayal.
