Robert Vadra, husband of Congress member Priyanka Gandhi Vadra may contest election from the Amethi lok sabha seat.
He said that the people of Amethi has expected him to represent their constituency in the lok sabha.
Vadra is also attacked Smriti Irani and said that people of Amethi think they made a mistake by electing her.
In an interview of ANI, Vadra said people of Amethi feel that they made a mistake by electing Smriti Irani and want a Gandhi family member to return. ”
In fact, they even expect me to represent their constituency if I decide to become a Member of Parliament”.

He also attacked Amethi MP and Union Minister Smriti Irani for not working in the constituency and only levelling accusations on the Gandhi family. He said people are ‘very upset’ with Irani and believed they made a mistake by voting for her. Vadra in an interview on ANI.
He also said, “People have seen my hard work, so everywhere I go, people want me to represent them. My posts are starting to appear everywhere. Whenever I attend a political event, people from different political parties say that I am delaying my politics. They say I should go into politics. They even say if not from congress then join our party,”
In an interview of another media, he also said that it is the people who want him to step into politics.
How opposition leaders respond?
Speaking to ANI, Brajesh Pathak deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has said, “we have not yet received any application from Robert Vadra side. If he has applied to Congress Party then it is the concern of his Mother-in-law, Brother-in-law. BJP has also not received any application”
BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa said, “One thing is very clear from his words that they (Congress) cannot come out of dynastic politics. What else is he (Robert Vadra) other than being the son-in-law of the Gandhi family, what people. nothing of he wait? What certificate do you (Robert Vadra) have?” he asked.
Congress’ Uncertainty Looms Over Amethi Constituency
Out of 80 Lok Sabha seats in UP, 17 will be contested by the Congress, with the remaining 63 going to regional and INDIA bloc allies Samajwadi Party.
Candidate for the 14 seats has already disclosed but the Congress has not yet announced the names of candidates from Amethi and Rae Bareli seats in Uttar Pradesh — constituencies once considered to be the bastion of the party.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Gandhi had run for the Amethi seat apart from Wayanad, which he held from 2004 to 2014. However, Smriti Irani snatched the seat from him in a tough fight.
More than fifty thousand votes separated him from victory. Irani was his opponent in 2014 and 2019, and she needs to defend her seat in this lok sabha election of 2024.
Plans for the Rae Bareli constituency, which Sonia Gandhi, the former head of the Congress, has held since 2004, are unclear. She has now relocated to the Rajya Sabha, though, thus she is not running in this election.
Priyanka’s potential candidacy for the Congress has continued to be discussed, offering voters in Amethi and Rae Bareli an interesting husband-wife team.
Thus, it is to be seen whether Irani will repeat history or not in 2024 or not, in which Smriti Irani defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. He lost by over 50,000 votes.
