Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi responded strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s accusation that her party was targeting women’s jewellery. She stated that “her mother’s mangalsutra was given up for the nation”.
Priyanka selected Bangalore South, where her party nominated Sowmya Reddy against BJP’s Tejasvi Surya, to counter Modi’s statement that Congress aims to take away “mangalsutras” from women.

She connected the Manipur violence to Modi’s remarks as well. Modi remained silent when a Manipur woman was publicly marched naked in front of the world. She inquired about the mangalsutra she was wearing.
Priyanka criticized Modi for discussing topics other than the issues affecting people and advised voters to make decisions based on their personal experiences.

Priyanka expressed that Lord Ram, Mahatma Gandhi, and all PMs, regardless of political affiliation, shared a strong sense of duty and service towards the people, as she addressed a crowd predominantly made up of women.
The Congress leader claimed that Modi is aiming for a large majority in order to make changes to the nation’s Constitution. She additionally alleged that the Modi administration was engaging in bias against states governed by non-BJP parties.
