Key Constituencies who went for polls in 6th Phase of Election
Bansuri Swaraj vs Somnath Bharti
Union Territory: Delhi, May 25(6th Phase)
Candidate: Bnasuri Swaraj(BJP), Somnath Bharti(AAP)
Bansuri Swaraj is the daughter of former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj. A Lok Sabha candidate in New Delhi, she is running against Somnath Bharti from AAP. During both the 2019 and 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had won every seat available.
Without naming his rival and BJP candidate Bansuri Swaraj, who is making her electoral debut in Lok Sabha elections 2024, Bharti says, “What is the BJP candidate’s introduction? I am so-and-so’s daughter. Then she says ‘Is baar chaar sau paar’. Do you know what her plan is for the constituency?”
The audience adamantly responds with a resounding no. Niru Agarwal, the secretary of the RWA, notes that this region has traditionally been a stronghold for the BJP, but residents are now seeking action. Since Bharti is always available, it has fully transitioned to AAP. We have witnessed his assistance to people amidst the Covid pandemic.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari vs Congress Kanhaiya Kumar
Union Territory: Delhi, May 25(6th Phase)
Candidate: Manoj Tiwari(BJP), Kanhaiya Kumar(Congress)
In North East Delhi, the electoral contest will feature two main candidates: the current MP Manoj Tiwari from BJP and Congress’s Kanhaiya Kumar. In the 2019 elections, BJP, who emerged victorious in the national capital, has replaced all six of its seven MPs except for actor-turned-politician Tiwari.
As voting for all the seven seats began in Delhi, BJP candidate Manoj Tiwari said, “Today is a very prestigious day. Again to elect Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the people of Delhi are out”
In the year 2019, Kanhaiya Kumar ran for the Begusarai seat in Bihar as a candidate of the Communist Party of India (CPI), but was defeated by Giriraj Singh, a Union Minister and leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2021, he became a member of the Congress.
The Congress is participating in the Lok Sabha elections in collaboration with the AAP in Delhi. In accordance with the seat-sharing agreement, the Congress is competing for three seats, while AAP has nominated candidates for four constituencies in Delhi.
Will BJP win the Puri seat?
Union Territory: Delhi, May 25(6th Phase)
Candidate: Sambit Patra(BJP), Jay Narayan Patnaik(Congress), Arup Patnaik(BJD)
Sambit Patra is running for the Puri seat in Odisha. He is competing with Arup Patnaik from BJD and Jay Narayan Patnaik from Congress. Patra caused controversy with his recent remarks by stating, “Lord Jagannath is a devotee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” sparking a political debate. BJD’s Patnaik, who previously served as Mumbai Police Commissioner, is now participating in his second consecutive Lok Sabha election. He ran for the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha seat in 2019 but was defeated by BJP’s Aparajita Sarangi.
Puri reflects a diverse demographic and remains a crucial constituency of Odisha. Now in 2024, the electorate is even more enthusiastic to show the power of their vote.
