On Friday, Billionaire Elon Musk announced that his Artificial Intelligence startup xAI is going to launch it’s latest AI model next week. It is the latest version of its Grok-1.5 chatbot that will be available on his social media platform X.
Its enhanced version chatbot Grok, will be made available to early testers and existing Grok users on X in the coming days, xAI said in statement on Thursday.
Key Background
Last July, Musk officially launched xAI to compete with OpenAI. The first version of Grok was released in November, with Musk announcing just a day later that he would be merging his AI firm with social media platform X.
In recent years, the landscape for AI chatbots is heated up, particularly after openAI launched its model ChatGPT in November 2022.
A month later, in March 2023, Google entered the AI chatbot game with the release of its own model, dubbed Bard.
After a heavily criticized rollout, Google introduced Gemini, another ChatBot in December.
This development comes as Elon Musk’s xAI is looking to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Bard in the generative AI chatbot space.
Musk Said on a post in X, “Should be available on x next week Grok 2 should exceed current AI on all metrics. In training now”.

Earlier this month, Musk said xAI would open-source Grok, days after the billionaire sued Microsoft-backed OpenAI for allegedly abandoning its original mission in favor of a for-profit model.

Expectations from Grok-1.5
According to X.ai, the Grok-1.5 benefits from “enhanced reasoning,” especially when it comes to tasks related to coding and math. The model more than doubled Grok-1’s score on the popular math benchmark, MATH, and scored more than 10 percent points on HumanEval’s test of programming language creation and problem-solving ability.
It is difficult to predict how these results will change in actual use since commonly used AI benchmarks that measure things as esoteric as graduate chemistry exam question performance fail to capture the way the average person interacts with models today.
One improvement that should bring significant benefits is the amount of context. which Grok-1.5 can understand compared to Grok 1.
