BLACKPINK members Jennie, Rose, Lisa and Jisoo became recipients of the MBE honours at the Buckingham palace yesterday. The K-pop bandmates were made COP26 advocates for the COP26 Glasgow summit 2021. The members urged people to participate in the global UN climate change conference to discuss climate change.
BLACKPINK, the South Korean girl group, has been involved in various philanthropic and awareness campaigns. They have occasionally used their platform to address environmental and social issues. For COP26 (the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties), many celebrities and influencers took part in efforts to raise awareness about climate change and promote sustainable practices.
The Glasgow summit typically refers to the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties, commonly known as COP26. This summit took place in Glasgow, Scotland, from October 31 to November 12, 2021. COP26 brought together world leaders, negotiators, activists, and stakeholders from around the globe to discuss and negotiate actions to address climate change.
It is common for events like COP26 to involve influencers, musicians, and other public figures to reach a wider audience, especially the younger demographic that may follow pop culture figures like BLACKPINK. Celebrities often contribute through social media posts, public statements, participation in events, or collaborations with organizations working on environmental causes.
MBE Honours for BLACKPINK
The Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organizations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established in 1917. Rose’s MBE came with an honorary qualifier for having a dual citizenship with New Zealand.
The MBE is one of the ranks within the Order, and it recognizes a significant achievement or outstanding service to the community, usually in a local, regional, or country-wide capacity. Recipients of the MBE can use the title “Member of the Order of the British Empire” after their name.

At the banquet hosted for South Korean President, Yoon Suk Yeol, King Charles complimented the entertainment industry of South Korea saying, “Korea has matched Danny Boyle with Bong Joon Ho, James Bond with Squid Game and Beatles’ Let It Be with BTS’ Dynamite.
