About Rajiv Gandhi
Rajiv Ratna Gandhi was an Indian politician who served as the sixth Prime Minister of India from 1984 to 1989. He assumed office after the assassination of his mother, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At the age of 40, he became the youngest Indian prime minister.
He was assassinated by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), where a bomb concealed in a basket of flowers carried by a woman associated with the Tamil Tigers- 16 others were also killed.

The former Prime Minister was killed in Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu during an election campaign in 1991 for the next round of parliamentary elections. However, unlike in 1984, Rajiv’s assassination did not bring an avalanche of sympathy votes for the Congress.
2024 is the year of the elections in India; the voting procedure will be conducted in seven phases. The fifth phase is currently underway, and the results will be announced on June 4.
