The now-repealed Delhi excise policy case has been making headlines for a while now. The developments in the arrests of the accused have been some of them.
What’s in the news?
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was given insulin on Monday night at Tihar jail on the advice of AIIMS doctors. Two units of low-dose insulin were administered.
It was given when his blood sugar level spiked to 320 when the ideal range should be between 70 and 100. On Monday at 7 p.m., his sugar level was 217.
The AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) took to its X account and expressed gratitude towards Lord Hanuman for his blessings on the auspicious day of Hanuman Jayanti.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday said it was “Lord Hanuman, who on his ‘janmotsav,’ gave insulin to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal” after the Tihar Jail administration and Central government denied the AAP supremo a dosage despite repeated requests.
The administration of insulin came after the Delhi High Court directed AIIMS to form a medical board to assess Mr Kejriwal’s medical needs, particularly regarding insulin.
The spat between BJP and AAP
It has started a war of words between his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), prison officials and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Today, it is clear that the Chief Minister was right; he needed insulin. But the officials under the BJP’s central government deliberately did not treat him. Tell me, BJP people! If insulin is not needed, then why are you giving it now? Because the whole world is cursing them,” Delhi Minister and AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj said in a statement.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva has claimed that AAP leaders aimed to generate public sympathy for Mr. Kejriwal’s health during the Lok Sabha elections.
“No doubt Arvind Kejriwal is a diabetic but his sugar is under control in jail as he didn’t raise demand for insulin in the video consultation with the doctors of AIIMS,” Mr. Sachdeva said.
Last week, the ED had accused Kejriwal for consuming food which result in spike of sugar level in an attempt to exploit his health for legal advantage. which were later swiftly denied by the minister.
Trajectory of Kejriwal’s arrest
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 and has been held in Tihar Jail since April 1 in relation to a money-laundering case associated with the Delhi government’s discontinued excise policy.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court has scheduled a hearing on May 15 for Kejriwal’s petition challenging the ED summonses issued to him.
