The shift of Savitri Jindal from Congress to BJP is one such development amidst the election season. On Wednesday, she took it to her X handle and announced this shift.
This move came days after her son and chairman of Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Naveen Jindal, announced his decision to contest for Lok Sabha 2024 elections from Kurukshetra hours after he joined the BJP. Additionally, Seema Jindal, her daughter, also joined the BJP.
Who is Savitri Jindal?
Forbes India ranks Savitri Jindal as India’s richest woman, with a net worth of USD 29.1 billion (one billion = ₹ 100 crore). She initiated her political journey after her husband, O P Jindal’s demise, to fulfil his dreams. The 84-year-old was a former minister in the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in Haryana and has served Hisar for ten years.
Various ministers and leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, former CM Manohar Lal Khattar, and other BJP leaders, were present during the decision.
Further, on Friday, the Bloomberg Billionaires Index released that Savitri Jindal is the richest woman in Asia. The Lok Sabha 2024 elections will commence from April 19, 2024 in six phases.
