The Lok Sabha election 2024 is the most discussed topic these days. A contesting party’s manifesto before the election phases commence is essential for both the parties and the citizens of the nation. The opposition party of the current ruling party has released its manifesto today.
About the manifesto
The name of Congress’s manifesto is ‘Nyay Patra’. ‘Paanch Nyay’ and ‘Pachees Guarantee’ are the broad themes of the party’s manifesto this time. Which was released on Friday at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi.
Top party leaders, including former presidents Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, KC Venugopal, P Chidambaram, and others, were present during the release of the document.
The manifesto stressed Paanch Nyay, or the ‘five pillars of justice,’ including ‘Yuva Nyay’, ‘Naari Nyay’, ‘Kisaan Nyay’, ‘Shramik Nyay’, and ‘Hissedari Nyay’.
What does the manifesto contain?

Personal rights to citizens
Under this heading, the manifesto promises not to interfere with personal choices of food and dress, to love and marry, and to travel and reside in any part of India. Next, it encourages reforms of personal laws that must be undertaken with the participation and consent of the communities concerned. Also, ensures that minorities of the country will have the freedom of choice of dress, food, language and personal laws. Additionally, all laws and rules that interfere unreasonably with personal freedoms will be repealed. The manifesto also promises to address and enact a law to recognize civil unions between couples belonging to the LGBTQIA+ community.

Election laws
The 2024 elections, though, will be conducted via EVMs. The manifesto of Congress promises that, henceforth, the election laws will be amended. The change will ensure the efficiency of the electronic voting machine (EVM) and the transparency of the ballot paper. Voting will be through the EVM but the voter will be able to hold and deposit the machine-generated voting slip into the voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) unit, as said by Congress.

It promises to repair relations with the Maldives, restore the status quo ante on our borders with China and take necessary steps to adjust our policy towards China until this is achieved.

Economic development
The manifesto states that the GDP will be doubled in the next ten years, with rapid growth and the generation of wealth.
Introduction of GST 2.0 which will be based on the universally accepted principle that GST shall be a single, moderate rate (with a few exceptions) that will not burden the poor.
The party if it wins, will conduct a nationwide socio-economic and caste census.
It promises to launch Mahalakshmi scheme which will provide ₹1 lakh per year to every poor Indian family. The central government’s contribution to pensions for senior citizens, widows and persons with disabilities under the National Social Assistance Programme will be at Rs. 1000 per month.
For the first time the youth will be granted “right to employment”. This will ensure that the unemployment rate reduce drastically.
After introducing the manifesto, Congress leader said that this election is “between those who are trying to destroy Constitution and democracy and those trying to protect them.”
The Lok Sabha elections 2024 are set to commence from 19th April 2024 and the results of the same will be released on 4th June 2024.
