Choosing the birth anniversary of her ideologue Dr BR Ambedkar, Bahujan Samaj Pary (BSP) chief Mayawati has made a major national announcement for Western UP and will also convene a session of the Allahabad High Court in the region if it is voted to power.
Speaking at an election rally in Muzaffarnagar, the BSP leader once again raised the long pending issue of Harit Pradesh. Significantly, Dr. Ambedkar suggested that UP be divided into three separate states – Western, Central and Eastern – for better governance.
“You want West Uttar Pradesh to become a separate state. To this end, visible and concrete actions will be taken when our government comes to power in the center,” he said while speaking at his first election rally in support of party candidate Dara Singh Prajapati for Muzaffarpur seat.
During the Samajwadi Party (SP) rule in 2013, there were communal riots in Muzaffarnagar. This destroyed the brotherhood and unity between the Muslim and Jat communities. There were no such communal incidents during BSP rule,” he said.
Mr Prajapati hails from the Other Backward Classes (OBC) community. In Muzaffarnagar, BSP is contesting the third phase against BJP’s Mr Balyan and SP’s Harendra Malik .
Mayawati criticized both BJP and Congress
The BSP leader criticized both the Congress and the BJP for favoring capitalists and big business houses. “Dalits, tribals and the downtrodden are not in the development plan of these parties,” he said.
The BSP, in particular, will go it alone in the elections, keeping both the ruling and opposition groups at an equal distance. In Muzaffarnagar, Prajapati is pitted against BJP’s candidate Sanjeev Balyan, who is seeking a third term from the constituency, and former SP MP and prominent Jat leader Harendra Mallik.
Earlier, he started his party’s campaign of Saharanpur, the parliamentary seat. in constituency number 1, which the BSP won in 2019, Mayawati claimed that it would not be easy for the ruling party BJP to return to power because of the contradiction between their words and actions.
She accused the BJP ois lying to the people and it is working in the interests of the powerful people.
There were Eight parliamentary constituencies of the State — Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (SC), Moradabad, Rampur and Pilibhit — were going for polls in the first phase.
