The Pune teenager who crashed his Porsche into a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals in their 20s, had his bail revoked by the Juvenile Justice Board. Comin after the three days after the Board approved bail for the 17-year-old and requested him to write an essay on road accidents, Wednesday’s ruling has had stirred up anger across the country.
The Board has placed the adolescent in a remand home until June 5. It did not, however, make a determination on whether he should be prosecuted as an adult.
Following the crash on Sunday morning, the teenager, whose father is a well-known real estate agent in Pune, was released on bail in under 15 hours. In addition to a personal connection, a guarantor and a 300-word composition about road safety, he was requested to go to the local transportation department, familiarize himself with all the guidelines, and deliver a speech.
He was also required to attend counseling for treating alcohol addiction and see a psychiatrist.
When did the accident happen?
Two IT engineers, both 24 years old and from Madhya Pradesh, lost their lives when a drunk minor behind the wheel of a fast Porsche collided with them at 3:15 in the early morning in Kalyani Nagar.
The police stated that Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, who were both 24-year-old IT professionals from Madhya Pradesh, passed away due to their injuries.
As per the Pune Police directive, the teenager, who is 17 years old, was at Cosie Bar celebrating his Class-12 Board exam results with twelve friends. The minor bought rounds of Hoegaarden, Johnnie Walker, Black Label, Absolut Blue, and food.
The minor was given bail by a Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board just 15 hours after being arrested, causing widespread anger. Additionally, the judge directed the adolescent to compose a 300-word essay on traffic accidents, participate in community service for 15 days alongside traffic officers, and receive counseling for his alcohol consumption.
The teenager’s father, who works as a construction worker, was apprehended in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and transported to Pune, where he was formally arrested on Tuesday evening.
Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, expressed doubt over the “leniency” of the punishment given by the Juvenile Justice Board to the teenager.
