According to a report by The Economic Times, Apple and its ecosystem—which is well-known for having created over 1,50,000 direct jobs in India over the last 2.5 years—are now refocusing their efforts on improving employee welfare by offering residential facilities to factory workers. This effort aims to provide an efficient living environment and is in line with the housing types used by the company’s suppliers in Vietnam and China.
Government representatives revealed to ET that Foxconn, Tata, and Salcomp, among other contract manufacturers and suppliers of Applehttps://keratimes.com/apple-cuts-600-jobs-in-california/, are constructing residences for their staff members.
In the biggest private sector project of its kind, these are being constructed under a public-private partnership model. The program calls for the construction of about 78,000 units, of which Tamil Nadu will receive a maximum of roughly 58,000.

The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu is building the majority of the housing units (SIPCOT). Homes are also being built by SPR India and the Tata Group.
Ten to fifteen percent of the scheme’s funding will come from the federal government, with the remaining funds coming from state and local governments as well as private investors. According to the officials, the construction and transfer to the private sector should be finished within current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.
Flooding Housing Facility requirements
Foxconn is the largest iPhone supplier in India. It is based in Sriperumbudur Tamil Nadu and it will utilise nearly 35,000 of these units. Foxconn currently employs 41000 employees,75% of them women.
At its Hosur complex, Tata Electronics is constructing 11,500 units for its staff to use. Tata mostly produces iPhone cases for both local and international markets.
Salcomp, a company that produces enclosures, magnetics, and power adapters for Apple, plans to employ 3,969 housing units.
“The mass housing of workers is designed to increase efficiency and provide security for mainly female migrant workers, most of whom are between the ages of 19 and 24,” the official said.

of convenient and accessible housing for workers who often travel long distances from rental housing to factories.
Construction and handover to the private sector is estimated to be completed by the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2025.
