TMC workers in Murshidabad halted Congress leader and Baharampur candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s convoy on Saturday, chanting “go back”. The TMC supporters were engaged in an altercation with the police while trying to be stopped. The Congress and CPI(M) strongly condemned the event that took place just three days after the sitting MP was reportedly assaulted by TMC thugs in the area.
When Chowdhury arrived in the Nowda area of Murshidabad district on Saturday, which is part of the Baharampur constituency, TMC supporters began protesting and shouting slogans. Supporters of Congress were reportedly assaulted and physically harmed in the chaos while the head of the West Bengal Congress stayed inside his vehicle. The police attempted to control the TMC members, but without success.
Congress supporters also chanted opposing slogans, causing the police to struggle to calm down both groups.
“The Trinamool Congress is attempting to hinder my campaign events.” However, they will never achieve success. The Congress leader stated that he will not be intimidated by the TMC workers” threats.
Chowdhury had previously encountered protests in his constituency while campaigning.
Choudhary said “The TMC is feeling insecure in this constituency from where I have won five times. Hence, it incited ruffians to hinder my campaign but they will not succeed. Locals people have raised their voice against this,”
Rejecting Chowdhury’s claims, Trinamool Congress leader Habib Master stated, “The constituents have not encountered him over the past five years.” Now, he is arriving to request votes. Therefore, issues are arising wherever he travels to campaign.
How other politicians reacted to the incident?
In remarks to the media, Soumya Aich, a Congress representative, mentioned that Trinamool often protests against Adhir Chowdhury despite knowing they will lose. The citizens will respond appropriately to this at the polls.
CPI(M) leader Bikash Bhattacharya also criticized the ruling party’s position. The TMC is targeting Adhir Chowdhury, who is resolutely opposing the BJP. This demonstrates the TMC’s commitment to honesty in their opposition against the BJP. They are pretending to be a friend of the BJP.
In Baharampur Lok Sabha seat, the TMC has nominated ex-cricketer Yusuf Pathan to compete against Congress heavyweight Chowdhury in the fourth phase of elections on May 13.
