Can Independent Candidate Azad win the Nagina seat?
State: Uttar Pardesh, April 19th, Phase 1
Candidates: Chandra Shekhar Azad ASP(KR), Surendra Pal Singh (BSP), Manoj Kumar (SP), Om Kumar (BJP)
The competition in Nagina involves four candidates, including Chandra Shekhar Azad of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram). Azad, a well-known Dalit leader, also goes by the name Ravan.
Nagina, a seat reserved for SC candidates, has not been won by the same party since the 2009 elections. 20% of Nagina’s population consists of Scheduled Caste members, and Muslims make up 43% of the population.
Chandra shekhar Aazad’s participation in the contest has introduced a fresh element, relying on his popularity with Dalit voters, particularly the youth. Swami Prasad Maurya, president of the Rashtriya Shoshit Samaj Party, is also supporting him.
Therefore, the seat that has seen wins with margins of less than one lakh votes will be intriguing to observe in the already divided electorate.
Will Churu Remain BJP’s Stronghold?
State: Rajasthan, April 19(Phase)
Candidates: Devendra Jhajharia (BJP), Rahul Kaswan (Congress)
Churu, a stronghold of the BJP in northern Rajasthan, is gearing up for an exciting contest between BJP candidate Devendra Jhajharia, a two-time Paralympic gold medalist javelin thrower, and Rahul Kaswan from the Congress.
Rahul Kaswan has become a traitor, adding an interesting twist to the battle for Churu.
Kaswan, who was once a BJP member, switched to the Congress in March when the BJP refused to give him a ticket for the Churu constituency where he had previously served as MP twice.
Kaswan secured victory in the seat, which serves as the entrance to the Thar region, with around a three lakh vote margin in the 2015 bye-election and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
It is anticipated that Rahul Kaswan, a leader of the Jat community, will hinder the chances of the Paralympian in the upcoming election, as the community makes up nearly one-third of the 2.2 million voters. The Jat community had expressed discontent towards the BJP due to the withdrawn farm bills and the wrestler’s protests.
Jorhat Battle between Gogoi vs Gogoi
State: Assam, April 19th(Phase 1)
Candidates: Gaurav Gogoi (Congress) and Topon Kumar Gogoi (BJP)
Jorhat, a region that has traditionally supported the Congress party and was previously represented by former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, was won by the BJP’s Topon Kumar Gogoi in 2019.
The intriguing aspect of the Jorhat battle is the relocation of Congress’s well-known Lok Sabha representative, Gaurav Gogoi.
Gogoi moved to Jorhat due to the effects of the delimitation exercise on his former constituency, Kaliabor, in 2019. Gaurav aims to leverage his father, Tarun Gogoi’s, reputation in the fight for Jorhat.
The Jorhat battle becomes more intriguing due to the BJP’s emphasis on honoring Ahom pride and the defection of the 2019 Congress candidate, Sushanta Borgohain, to their party.
This election will determine whether a highly outspoken member of Congress will be elected to the Lok Sabha.
Will Singham Annamalai win the Coimbatore Lok Sabha Constituency?
State: Tamil Nadu, April 19th(Phase1)
Candidates: Ganapathi P. Rajkumar (DMK), K Annamalai (BJP), Singai G Ramachandran (AIADMK)
Throughout history, this seat has typically been a stronghold for Leftist parties, with the CPI(M) winning 7 times, the Congress 5 times, the DMK twice, and the AIADMK only once.
Known as the Manchester of South India for its large textile industry, Coimbatore is preparing for a tense showdown between BJP’s Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai, AIADMK IT wing secretary Singai Govindarasu Ramachandran, and DMK’s Ganapathy P Rajkumar.
The BJP’s choice to nominate Annamalai resulted in the DMK presenting a candidate after a decade, a role typically reserved for the Left parties due to the concentration of textile industries and its nearness to Kerala.
Indeed, it is the textile industry that gives Coimbatore hope for the BJP.
The BJP is focusing on the non-Tamil residents in Coimbatore because of the laborers and families of mill and factory workers who have made their home in the ‘Manchester of the South‘.
The seat holds significant importance for the BJP as it was one of the party’s first Lok Sabha seats in the state.
