An explosion took place at a gathering in Saktipur area of Murshidabad district in West Bengal on Tuesday during a rally celebrating Ram Navami. According to news agency PTI, a woman sustained injuries in the incident.
A minimum of 20 individuals have sustained injuries in the event. A lady with severe injuries was admitted to Murshidabad Medical College & Hospital. A police officer stated that the others have been accepted into the nearby hospital.
Reports indicate that troublemakers threw stones at the parade from a house’s rooftop, resulting in a outbreak of violence. Large numbers of troops have been sent to the region.
A single woman sustained injuries in the incident. “We are looking into the matter,” said the police officer to PTI.
The officer did not specify if the explosion was caused by a bomb or another cause.
At the beginning of the week, the Election Commission had appointed a new DIG for Murshidabad following incidents of violence at Kamnagar, where prohibitory orders were in place.
What TMC accused BJP of?
According to news agency PTI, Mamata Banerjee, the leader of Trinamool Congress, accused the BJP of planning to incite clashes during Ram Navami celebrations in order to create trouble for her party members and trigger an NIA investigation. She warned people to not be deceived by BJP’s tactics before the April 19 elections.
Earlier in the day, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee appealed to the citizens “to maintain prosperity, peace and development for all”.
BJP to TMC
After the unrest in Murshidabad, Suvendu Adhikari, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, criticized the chief minister, claiming she instigated the violence and alleging that police used teargas to break up the march.
Mamata Police collaborated with the troublemakers in this horrible assault and” used teargas shells on Ram devotees to scatter them and make sure the procession stops suddenly,” Adhikari wrote on X.
This is the outcome of Mamata Banerjee’s instigation and provocation. In order to ensure a peaceful and trouble-free observance of religious festivals in West Bengal, there is a need to change the current state government. Adhikari requested the Election Commission to pay attention to the police’s failure.
Samik Bhattacharya, a BJP member in the Rajya Sabha, stated that this event is a consequence of Mamata Banerjee’s ongoing hostility towards supporters of Ram – “What do you anticipate in a state where the Chief Minister views Ram naam as a challenge?”
‘The lack of ability from Mamata Banerjee to protect Ramanavami Shobha Yatras in West Bengal is shocking. The BJP alleged that Hindus are being singled out in Rejinagar, Murshidabad, where they are in the minority’, as per their official X handle.
Violence broke out in Rishra and Shibpur in Howrah last year during Ram Navami with conflicting claims about the source of the initial stone throwing by both communities in Hooghly district.
