A snapshot of CBSE Class 9 Value Education Textbook featuring a chapter on Dating and Relationship has been circulated in the social media since 30th January 2024, intriguing the interest of viewers whether it’s conventional or traditional for the curriculum.
Even in 2024, children in India are embarrassed or uncomfortable to discuss topics like relationships or heartbreak from their parents, instead they take advices from the internet which sometimes lead them to worst case scenario as they are not accurate often. Taking a progressive measure, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced a chapter in Value Education Textbook of class 9 titled ‘Dating and Relationships – Understanding Yourself and the Other Person.
Apart from making the student understand the nuance of dating and relationships, the chapter also elaborated on modern dating slangs like ghosting, catfishing and cyberbullying. Topics like crushes and ”special” friendships are also explained through simple stories and examples.
No points in guessing that the post grabbed a lot of eyeballs and went viral with over seven lakh views. Social media users flooded the comments section with amusing, bewildered and intrigued opinions.
Internet users were pleasantly both surprised and confused with the book and hailed CBSE for introducing such much-needed chapters which are crucial in today’s times. A user also commented “GenZ ka zamana hai, kuch bhi ho sakta hai“. Reacting to the viral post, Tinder India also joined the in and commented, “Next chapter : how to deal with breakups.”
