Lauren Boebert has expressed her intention to run for office in the Fourth Congressional District which is currently represented by Ken Buck. Buck has stated that he will not be standing for reelection next year. The Fourth District includes a significant portion of the rural eastern plains and includes larger cities along the Front Range.
Twitter, now known as X, has erupted with the news of Boebert switching districts. Her move is being seen as an attempt to win by choosing a more conservative district. Her opponent in the third district, Adam Frisch stated that her withdrawal from the district made no impact on him.
In the 2022 midterms, Boebert very narrowly secured reelection in the 3rd district by defeating Democrat Adam Frisch with a margin of just 546 votes. The district has a Republican leaning. Despite the close race, Frisch, who is running again, has been reportedly raising more funds than Boebert in the current election cycle. Democrats have identified Boebert’s seat as a significant target for pickup in the 2024 elections, making it a closely watched and competitive race.
Adam Frisch’s statement after Boebert’s switch
Frisch has also stated in a statement that he remained positive about his chances. “From Day 1 of this race, I have been squarely focused on defending rural Colorado’s way of life, offering common sense solutions to the problems facing the families of Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District. My focus remains the same.”
Beetlejuice scandal
On September 10, rep. Lauren Boebert was reported to have been removed from the audience during a performance of the Beetlejuice musical at Denver’s Buell Theatre due to disruptive behavior. Her disruptive actions which have drawn flak by the public included vaping, singing along, and taking flash photos during the performance, as reported by the Denver Post. Additionally, Boebert and her date were allegedly caught on video engaging in inappropriate behavior, specifically groping each other in the theater.
This incident has led to a negative public image for Boebert, which may harm her results in the election. Reports have suggested that her shift from the third to the fourth district is to ensure a safety net and higher chances of winning. In addition, her contender from the third district seemed to gain better traction this time around and reports have suggested that the fourth district would be a better bet for her.
