Aviation accidents are usually regarded as deadly. However, the airplane incident on Wednesday morning at the Kolkata airport wasn’t deadly but is categorised as a serious incident.
An IndiGo flight 6E 6152 grazed passed an Air India Express flight, causing its wingtip to be separated from the airplane. The IndiGo flight, which is said to just have a ‘minor’ graze, was also damaged.
The situation of the aircrafts
Both aircraft involved in the incident, which is now recognized as a ‘bizarre’ one, had more than 100 passengers on board, with six cabin crew members on each flight. The IndiGo aircraft, which was scheduled for Koltakta to Darbhanga, is said to have caused the minor graze while taxiing on the tarmac. On the other hand, the Air India Express was stationary, waiting for the traffic to clear for taking off to Chennai. Airports Authority of India (AAI) said that the wingtip vortices of both planes were badly damaged.
Action post the incident
The Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) was informed about the incident. It has considered it and ordered a high-level investigation. Additionally, both IndiGo pilots on duty have been de-rostered to further familiarize themselves with the incident’s intricacies.
Further, there were no casualties, and an alternate flight was arranged for the passengers. The Air India Express aircraft has been taxied at bay for inspection. All that can be anticipated is the report of the investigation of this unusual airport incident.
